Why Kiwis love our Shiitake Mushroom Grow Kit
Super simple “Splash & Grow” method — just mist with water twice a day for a few days and nature does the rest.
Multiple harvests — expect 2+ flushes of fresh shiitake (hundreds of grams per flush depending on conditions).
Fresh & nutritious — home-grown shiitake are packed with natural copper, B vitamins, vitamin D precursors, fibre and immune-supporting compounds. Far fresher (and cheaper) than supermarket imports.
100% New Zealand made — sustainably grown in Canterbury on locally sourced substrates.
Beginner-friendly with zero experience needed — ideal first mushroom kit or thoughtful gift.
Guaranteed success — we promise at least one harvest. If your block doesn’t fruit, send us a photo and we’ll help trouble shoot or replace it free.
How to Grow Shiitake Mushrooms at Home (Takes 5 Minutes to Set Up)
Open your kit within 5 days of delivery.
Find a cool, shaded spot indoors (12–22°C is perfect - kitchen bench, laundry, garage or spare room).
Cut off the plastic bag completely.
Mist the block heavily with water (until it’s dripping) morning and night for 2–3 days.
Tiny white pins appear → stop heavy misting and keep the block moist.
Harvest when caps are open and edges start to curl (usually 5–10 days after pinning).
After the first flush, leave the block to dry for a few weeks then soak the block in cold water overnight to trigger the next crop. One block can keep producing for months!
Always identify any mushroom before consuming!
