Hydrated lime for pasteurizing straw, gorse or sawdust for growing oyster mushrooms.

 

This hydrated lime is low in magnesium, high in calcium and raises PH. Other types of lime - such as garden lime or dolomite lime - are high in magnesium, & are not appropriate for mushroom substrate pasteurization. 

 

Please note this hydrated lime is not suitable for pickling /  water glassing eggs etc.

 

This is for use with a simple cold-water method of pasteurisation -- which is a cheaper safer alternative to heat pasteurisation. 

 

For straw soak use 2-3g/L. Soak straw for 12-24hrs, drain for 4-12 hours, mix in spawn and bag into straw bags with pre-punched holes.
