Agar plates for germinating Mushroom Spores and general mycelium growing. These are sterile poured Potato Dextrose agar plates.
Some species of mushrooms will perform better on PDA agar than other types of agar -- it is known for supporting strong aggressive mycelia growth.
These plates are perfect for growing out mycelium, yeast, bacteria, germinating spores etc. If you need to reinvigorate a lazy mushroom culture running it across different agar mixes will do this, for example grow out the mycelium on PDA agar plates, then take a sample to >> MEA agar plates and then on to >> Sabouraud agar plates.
Perfect for school experiments like culturing fingerprint swabs—grow anything on these agar plates and discover what thrives!
Please note:
- 5 pack option comes in a sealed sterile bag, each plate is not individually wrapped. Only open these packs inside a >> Still Air Box or in front of a >> Laminar Flow Hood
- Individual Plates come individually wrapped in plastic film.
Green wrapping film will wrap about 250-300 * 90mm plates - it is simple to apply and much cheaper and easier to use than parafilm. We strongly recommend wrapping plates after adding your culture or spores for best results.
Agar mix is Potato Dextrose and is suitable for all commonly-cultivated species of mushrooms in NZ: wood-lovers and dung/ compost-loving species both grow well on this agar mix.
Will not work for mycorrhizal fungi such as porcini or truffles.
Customers also buy:
> Sabouraud Dextrose Agar Plates
> Agar Plates infused with Antibiotics - minimise contamination risk
Please note the agar plates have an expiry date on them that will be expired, it is a dish expiry and does not affect the quality or sterility of the agar.
